A Masury woman and her boyfriend died in what Brookfield police believe to have been a murder-suicide.
The identities of those involved are not being released, because police were still trying to locate the man’s family members, and additional members of the woman’s family, Police Chief Dan Faustino said. Each person was in their 30s.
The shooting occurred April 15 behind a duplex at 540-542 Syme St. in Masury.
“We had a domestic altercation,” Faustino said. “Video captured by a neighbor’s cameras indicates and shows you on there the male subject during the argument shooting the female, and then turning the gun on himself. She’s died as a result of the injuries while at Sharon Regional hospital.”
The man was taken to the Sharon hospital and then flown to St. Elizabeth’s in Youngstown, where he died.
The woman’s two sons were present at the time of the shooting, Faustino said.
Faustino said he had not seen the video and wasn’t sure if it captured audio of the shooting. He said he did not know what the argument was about.
The weapon was a 9 mm handgun and police have recovered two shell casings. Faustino said neighbors reported hearing three shots.
The boys will be staying with family members, he said.
There will be autopsies performed of both people, Faustino said.
Police were dispatched at 2:25 p.m.
Brookfield Fire-EMS transported the injured, and Hubbard Township and Sharon police assisted at the scene.
