Brookfield Local School District is one of five school districts that will jointly receive a state Expanding Opportunities for Every Child Grant.
The district is in the planning stage with Struthers, United, Canfield and East Palestine, all working with the Mahoning County Educational Services Center.
“The idea behind it is to create a definite pathway that provides credentialing opportunities for high school students,” said Brookfield Supt. Toby Gibson, and Brookfield is looking at creating a business and finance pathway. Students must pass a certification test to receive the credential.
“When they walk out of here, they’re marketable to businesses.” Gibson said of students who would receive the credential.
Each school gets about $23,500 to use for materials, training and payment of the testing fees.
