The Hackett brothers of Brookfield recently reached milestones in their military careers.
Zachary Hackett of Brookfield is one of 10 from Edinboro University’s ROTC leadership team who have been officially commissioned from the Fighting Scots Battalion to enter active duty as U.S. Army officers.
Hackett’s brother, Joe, recently completed U.S. Air Force basic training and trade school.
Zachary Hackett will join the Army Ordinance Corps. At Edinboro, he was a member of the color guard team, an Army Ten-Miler and an Arctic Challenge captain. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration – accounting.
At a virtual ceremony the week of Memorial Day, Edinboro University President Guiyou Huang credited the battalion members for dedicating their collegiate careers to public service and for putting the safety of the nation ahead of their own.
“I am truly grateful for the sacrifices that you are willing to make to keep our nation safe,” Dr. Huang said. “Your courage and selflessness speak volumes to your character.”
“You are now beginning your new life as an officer in the United States Army,” said Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Mari K. Eder, an Edinboro graduate, in a virtual address. “Where we are today is beginning a new adventure. This is your army now. Take care of it for the rest of us.”
Joe Hackett is an airman and aerospace maintenance technician serving at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna. A star wrestler for Brookfield High School, he graduated high school in 2019.
