Brookfield Board of Education has hired three companies for a revamp of the bus garage on Grove Street.

Progressive Roofing LLC of Carlton, Pa., will replace the steel roof on the east side bus shed for $14,000. T-Squared Electrical LLC of Brookfield will upgrade the electrical wiring, replace lighting and extend electricity to the electronic fence gate that will be put up by Austintown Fence.

T-Squared will be paid $13,190 and Austintown Fence, which will fence off the entire property, $21,190.

Although school officials have been talking about what to do about the bus garage for years, it became imperative to act when a storm last spring blew off the bus shed roof, said Treasurer Jordan Weber. The roof was reattached, but is damaged.

Weber added that the district will receive an insurance payment that should cover all of the expenses associated with the roof, wiring and fence.

“It’s essentially net neutral for the district,” he said of the project.

Officials decided to install fence to discourage vandalism and theft. A 12-year-old boy and his 72-year-old grandfather have been charged in connection with the January theft of fire extinguishers from school buses.
