Jan. 29 update: Styranec was released on his own recognizance at arraignment and a pretrial hearing was set for March 14, accoding to court records.
Ohio Highway Patrol on Jan. 4 filed charges of vehicular manslaughter and failing to yield against Stephen W. Styranec, who was involved in a Sept. 20 fatal crash at Route 62 and Bedford Road in Masury.
Styranec, 48, of Struthers, was sent a summons to appear for arraignment Jan. 29 in Trumbull County Eastern District Court, according to court records.
Styranec was driving a garbage truck northbound on Bedford at just after 9 in the morning, police said. He pulled from a stop sign into the path of a minivan driven by Linda A. Tinelli, 75, of Hubbard Township, and which was eastbound on Route 62, police said.
A passenger in the minivan, Blaine N. Tinelli, 80, of the same address as Linda Tinelli, was pronounced dead at Sharon Regional Medical Center, police said.
Styranec and Linda Tinelli were treated at Sharon Regional, police said.
Following the crash, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced it would conduct a safety study of the intersection, and that of Route 62 and Broadway Avenue.
