The Ohio Office of State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire in an apartment building garage May 28 at 6975 Stewart Sharon Road, Brookfield.
One family – two adults and a child – was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross. No one was injured.
Brookfield Fire Chief David Masirovits said he called in the fire marshal to investigate the origin and cause of the fire because it is a multi-family dwelling and the department does not have an investigator on staff.
The fire occurred in a garage on the first floor of the building, and caused heavy smoke damage to one of the five apartments. Firefighters had Ohio Edison pull the meter to that apartment, Masirovits said.
Firefighters forced their way into the garage, but had the fire under control in about 10 minutes.
A significant amount of property in the garage was damaged or destroyed, and Masirovits estimated the personal property loss at $12,000 to $15,000.
The property is owned by Ron Germadnik.
Firefighters from Hubbard and Vienna assisted.
