Mary Lou Reder of Hubbard Township will hold a petition signing, in an effort to save Coalburg Lake, from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at the gazebo on the green in Brookfield Center.
Ohio considers the Coalburg Lake dam to be unsafe and has ordered the owner to breach it.
Reder said she is trying to convince the state to delay any action so that supporters of the lake, which is in Hubbard and Brookfield townships, can apply for a federal grant to repair the dam and create a park.
Reder argues breaching the dam will destroy the ecosystem of the surrounding area. The lake, once owned by Youngstown Sheet and Tube, is “a significant historic site,” Reder said.
