When Brookfield firefighters pulled out of the Route 7 station on Christmas Day afternoon to investigate a report of heavy smoke, they could see the smoke to the north.
“We actually thought it was a house fire,” said firefighter Shane Stelk, the officer in charge for the shift.
Turns out, Stelk’s assumption was incorrect. Firefighters discovered a collapsed shed and old appliances and car parts were ablaze. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation, Stelk said.
Firefighters reached the fire from the 1200 block of Custer Orangeville Road, Masury. The fire was about 500 feet from the road, Stelk said.
