A Girard man who attempted to steal a dump trailer from Brookfield and led police on a chase into Youngstown has been sentenced to prison.
Christopher A. Pope, 33, pleaded guilty Aug. 29 to grand theft. Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Logan sentenced Pope to 9 months in prison.
Pope tried to steal the trailer Aug. 8, 2022, from the 6600 block of Stewart Sharon Road, but the brakes locked up and he was unable to do so, police said. The victim followed Pope’s pickup into Hubbard, where Brookfield police picked up the pursuit and followed him onto Interstate 80, Interstate 711 and into Youngstown, police said. He eluded capture at that time.
